Many people who view The Big Chase may notice from time to time, that I post articles titled "carnivals." I felt it might be necessary to take a moment to explain exactly what a blog carnival was. For those who are involved in blogging, they are most likely familiar with the term and the practice, as it is a helpful means to increase traffic to your blog. A blog carnival acts somewhat similar to an online magazine. You have the option of either creating your own carnival (like I did), or submitting links to your own blog posts to a carnival that falls under the correct category.
For example: I have created the , which gladly asks for any blog posts relating to the world of design. Blog users can submit as many posts pertaining to that field as they wish. The creator of the carnival then sets the date that they will post the blog carnival article on their site. If any of you out there are interested in this, head to . For those of you interested in submitting posts to my carnival so that you may receive some extra traffic from my blog, feel free to submit blog posts . Welcome to the carnival.

Whatever you do, don't mess about with fancy typefaces in marketing letters - it can cut response by 20%! Moving away from Courier is one of the 15 marketing blunders in 's article for the Nov/Dec issue of magazine. Fancy four-colour promotions are also a waste of money: 'The words do the selling, not the gloss,' he says.

The credits as being creative director of Conde Nast UK. The Guardian design department doesn't know that (it thinks he's their creative director) and the magazine gurus in Vogue House don't know it. Meanwhile, Porter himself is away. Get along to the December EDO meeting to discover whether it's truth, a publicity stunt or a literal...
Porter is down to debate the topic 'The web needs magazines more than magazines need the web' next year alongside Haymarket's Simon Kanter. Kanter has a long history with new media. As long ago as 1993, he produced a CD-Rom holding a review of a Saab saloon for Haymarket's What Car? and XYZ magazines.

I think it's fair to say that I'm a frequent traveler as I spend some time in a plane a few times each month. That said, every time I've entered a plane I start reading a book or the newspaper and won't look up for anything else than food, drinks and the notice that we'll be landing soon. The last thing I'll pay attention to is the safety video or instructions given by the flight attendants. Been there, done that... and it's boring.
Funny enough, today I did watch a safety video... and that wasn't even in a plane. When I saw I figured I'd follow his advice and watched the new Virgin America safety video. It's like Karl says, even if we've all got accustomed to the fact that some things - like safety videos - can only be boring, Virgin America proves us wrong. Together with the agency they made a difference and it results in the fact that I actually got interested in checking out the Virgin offering next time I have to book a flight. Kudos!
