I know you don't care, but I'm going to tell you anyway.
Boots are cool. Almost everyone likes a good boot.
But this... this is a whole 'nother league.
I bought a pair of these today, after a LONG search. And I firmly believe they are the perfect boot. I may never wear any other footwear. I'll be the guy wearing shorts and boots in summer. You know the guy.. you look at him while he's waiting to cross the road and you think.. dood, what's with the boots?
I have the answer.. if you look closely, I'm sure you'll find he's wearing a pair of Doc Martin's 6-hole 939's.
I'm going to propose they go into the museum of modern art, and I'm not even a "shoe-person".
My feet have never been so happy :-)
That is all.

had a simple idea - he wanted to get rich and he didn't want to work (in the traditional sense). He had no qualifications (that I know of) and came from a broken and poor family with his mother prostituting herself and his father drinking. His theory was simple - if you want money then you have to go where the money is. He came from the French countryside and landed in Hollywood. He invented a number of different identities (from the son of Dino de Laurentiis to the son of Sophia Loren as well as becoming a Rockerfeller) to befriend celebrities like Mickey Rourke or Jean-Claude Van Damme to access people with money who were prepared to throw it at him.
It's wrong and illegal and for the people who were stung it was a slap in the face which humiliated them more than anything else. It's estimated he managed to swindle 35 million dollars in a period lasting from 1993 to 2001 where he was captured by the police in Canada. He did his time and as he said he payed his debt to society and "even left a tip". He signed a book deal for a million dollars from prison and is now married to ex-Miss France Sonia Rolland where I figure he is playing with his kids having a good time.
Apart from the fact it's illegal to lie to people in order to take their money (in such an outright way), Christophe Rocancourt played the game and won. His marketing plan was ahead of its time in creating an experience people wanted to particpate in to the point of writing checks for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Rocancourt replied to Michel Polnareff when the latter accused him of taking 250 000 dollars that "for someone to steal 250 000 dollars from you, then you must have them".
I'm not condoning the theft but the process. I'm sure Rocancourt sleeps in peace considering himself no different than stockbrokers, insurance companies or real estate developers. He found that tear in the fabric and pulled. He's no hero, but he's no devil either.

Thank goodness these sleepless nights are fewer and fewer, but they still exist just the same. Its too hot and sticky to paint, so I just finished watching The Wall. Talk about nostalgia. I remember the first time I saw it, I thought, wow, artful use of maggots! I still love watching our hero (Wow, Bob Geldolf actually kinda cute back in the day, I'd forgotten that) scrabbling with that bloody hand around and around the stones on the wall. I wore those creamy cable knit socks with banged up black hard sole shoes like the schoolgirls for the longest time - amazing how well it worked with most punk clothing. So much of my found art reflects the insanity collage that gets created from the wreckage of the rage scene. Comfortably Numb, oh where do I begin to explain my relationship with that song. I can't, so I won't, but trust me. I go deep with it.
Ah, the concept album. Why am I drawn to them so? What is it about the long statement, the idea turned and reflected, and then reflected again from a different angle? Or the theme developed? Or the story told? The complicated nature of these pieces is like shiny metal to the crow in me, I can listen to it over and over, worry it and worry it, continually dissecting and re-assembling. I think my brain likes it, is soothed by it, or perhaps busied and therefore distracted by it.
I am always amazed by art works that consist of many pieces hanging together with coherence and significance. A truly fine album, conceptual or not, always seems to do this in some way. I think this is also why large installation pieces still loom in my artistic future. Its the same idea realized.
Anyway, I need to get some sleep, so off I go to ponder the scale of a project like The Wall, and my own aspirations. What does it take to create an artistic journey like that? Can I do it? Can I do it alone, or do I need a partner? Will I need artful maggots? Hmmm...
Edited to add: By the way, a good attempt at a comprehensive piece on the concept album exists on Wiki:
Also, I direct you to both of these albums by the late band XTC:

ok so i am doing these two smaller boy quilts, for strollers and such, with a touch of applique. Oh yes folks i am on a mission to become the "Queen of Applique". What is applique you say?
ap·pli·que
n.
A decoration or ornament, as in needlework, made by cutting pieces of one material and applying them to the surface of another.
So there, in less dictionary terms it is all the stuff i sew on, on top of the quilt top. For example my boy quilt above. The drums are appliqued onto the quilt top. The backs are cotton flannel, very cozy for your cold kids. I love them, now i just need to bind it and think of a name??????
well i thought i would post some pics of the new things i have been doing while my computer is working (knock on wood) so hope you enjoy. I have one more twin to finish and another boy quilt like the one above except i haven't decided on the image i want to use....any ideas??????
Stay tuned for a review of the Seattle Ryan Adams show.

Ursula Vernon's site has been inactive for a while, she's been moving or something. But she's finally made some updates.

Description : While certain reptiles get all the hype on the ninja circuit, the fact of the matter is that frog ninjas are twice as deadly. Sneaky, stealthy, somewhat slimy, the ninja frog's climbing ability is matched only by their nemeses, the dangerous Geckos of the Golden Chrysanthemum, and their skill at the mystic art of Poison Throwing Tongue is unmatched.

British Telecom's recently
announced first quarter performance:
BT is pushing itself as a service-centric organisation bundling service products and systems to deliver WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WANT
It's an important change that will continue to gain momentum - a move from technology-centric operations to customer-centric ones. With it we'll see an upswing in SOA and a resulting increase in SaaS and other service oriented offerings. Also the partnering of disparate organisations on specific projects in order to maximise the meeting of customers specific requirements.
Technology is only a tool and should first and foremost be concerned with enabling people and organisations.
